Many remarkable expeditions are embarked on each year, from backyard exploring to remote International expeditions. These are often the most impressive stories in kayaking. This award is given to the expedition felt to be the most compelling, ground breaking, or exploratory and is awarded in honour of our friend and whitewater legend, Hendri Coetzee. Hendri died this year while passionately pursuing a life worth living. Memory of his passion, determination, drive and boldness will live on.

This category highlights the year's dominant competitors in racing and freestyle.

This award highlights badass feats of strength from the whitewater world. Examples include Fisher's incredible 18 descents in one week of the 70+ foot Middle Palguin waterfall, and Aniol Serrasolses complete run on the Lower Big Banana section of the Rio Alsesseca (including the 128foot Big Banana Falls). This category is for styled lines on complicated moves in big rapids and drops of all shapes and sizes. Stomp that shit.

Bigger and more difficult whitewater is being run every year. This category shows talented paddlers firing up normally portaged rapids, big waterfalls and stacked rapids.

Unfortunately ‘kayak photographer’ isn’t a fiscally viable profession. This means there are never (or seldom) outside professionals following crews on their whitewater adventures. Most whitewater photographers are accomplished boaters themselves and have taken up photography to fill that void. This category highlights the photographers committed to capturing our sport, and showcases their best images from the year.
