Corey Boux

Nomination by Mark Basso

Images of legendary British Columbia whitewater encompass the thoughts of many paddlers throughout the world, but Corey Boux is still there amongst all of it actively seeking it out in his own backyard. Known for his entertaining antics both on and off the water, Corey began polishing his honey badger skills in his early days, back when the BC creeking scene was still largely unknown.  As new paddlers and video cameras began crossing the border, Corey was easily recognizable firing off the big drops first and explaining his invaluable local knowledge on many soon-to-be Whistler classics. Corey has forged an impressive paddling resume and he still leads many seasoned paddlers down some of B.C.'s most notorious creeks when he isn’t striving equally as hard at earning a living.

Last summer in the midst of a grueling work schedule driving a logging truck in the BC bush for over 12 hours a day, Corey managed to come off the couch for his 5th run of the Stikine Grand Canyon despite having hardly seen his kayak at all over the past few months. As water levels came in surprisingly early, Corey made the call and asked for an extra day-off with his boss and promised to be back to work after the long weekend. With a loaded van and few keen paddlers to meet on the drive up to the infamous put-in bridge, Corey was on the road and making the 600km drive north that very same night.

In true Honey Badger fashion Corey fired off yet another successful 3 day trip on one of the hardest stretches of whitewater on the planet  and was simply back in his logging rig at 6 the following morning as if nothing much had happened. Two months later, Corey etched in his name atop the leader board having completed an incredible 6th descent of the mighty Stikine despite bone chilling late season temperatures. Always a charger and an excellent human being all around, Corey Boux continues to be a homegrown BC whitewater explorer who lives up to the Honey Badger reputation well.
