Mariann has long been one of the most impressive and explosive female paddlers out there.
This year she continued her streak of running difficult whitewater stomping the tricky Tomata #1 as well as many of the other classic drops in Mexico, paddled all over Chile, and led the way on expeditions on her home turf, Norway.
Mariannes most impressive trait is her ability to dominate in multiple disciplines. She can easily put her creekboat aside pick up a playboat and start shredding..
Some of Mariann's recent accomplishments:
1st Futafest downriver
1st Voss Extremesportweek (Branset x-race)
1st Sweet Rumble Boaterx in Sjoa
1st Ula Extremerace at Sjoa festival
2nd Greenrace Iron Woman category
8th Worlds in Plattling
1st descent Salto Grande in Torres del Paine
1st descent Rio Barrancoso in Southern Chile.
1st descent Rio Maier in Southern Chile.
First Female Descent of Europe's "Biggest Waterfall" The Rhein Fall
To give an idea of how calm and collected Mariann can be while running huge drops, enjoy this excerpt of her blog regarding her clean line on the Rheinfall:
"The entry is fairly blind, but easy when you are in the right spot. Flying over the lead-in drop, a clean 3 meter, I knew I was in the sweet spot. I stroked to the main drop, and as I got a clear view of the curler, I hesitated for a second, surprised by the size of it after all. One of those that just looks smaller from shore… then I disappeared in a white, fluffy cloud of water. Fully submerged I felt how I travelled upwards, which was really bizarre since I knew I was simultaneously dropping gradient.. then the curler picked me up and threw me like the little piece of flesh and plastic I was. Getting my shit together I plugged the bottom hole and came out entirely silent. Normally I would be hollering after a sweet drop like that, but now I was simply mesmerized by the power of water I had dropped into."
